Alert: The Fiddleheads at Integral Yoga are beautiful!

May 17, 2013

It’s Friday in NYC (and probably everywhere else, too!) and I was just at Integral Yoga.  You bitches know how much I love that place! Check out these fiddleheads!  And, they have the BEST LOOKING GINGER EVER!  And, as usual, everything is organic.  I love you so much, Integral Yoga!  And your produce dudes are THE BEST!

Alert: Mattress Sale!

April 24, 2013

I apologize for the conceptual bankruptcy I am demonstrating this month by only posting alerts instead of the fascinating and incisively witty (humor me) blog posts to which you have been accustomed.  But Lifekind is having a 40% off sale on some of their mattresses, and as you can see, I absolutely love their stuff, and highly recommend their mattresses.  They are NOT CHEAP, but they are the REAL DEAL in organic mattresses.  No artificial flame retardant (which is carcinogenic, BTW) – they achieve compliance with flame retardant standards through natural materials like wool, cotton and natural latex.  Read up on this, and school yourself, fool.  Their customer service is incredible, their products are high quality, and they do the right thing for the environment.  And, I have never received anything from them (no discount, no perk, no anything) in return for reviewing them or saying anything about them.  I just love them.  I’ve been a customer for probably 10 years now and I cannot say enough good things.  If you are in the market for a mattress, now is the time.  Sale goes until Friday, 4/26/13.

Alert: gorgeous, organic turmeric at Integral Yoga right now!

I am blogging from IY right now. The turmeric is expensive, but this is the best looking turmeric I’ve ever seen, and it’s organic, people!

Holy crap! They even have organic papaya ( but not much!). If your papaya’s not organic, there’s a good probability it’s GM. Look it up… Papaya is one of the worst for GM.

Alert: Good restaurant opens in Chelsea Piers!

Chelsea's Table

Chelsea’s Table

UPDATE JANUARY 2013: CHELSEA’S TABLE IS CLOSED!
Their website is still active, with no indication of closure, but I assure you, Chelsea’s Table is no longer at Chelsea Piers.  The location is now a ‘wichcraft.  I like ‘wichcraft, but I will definitely miss Chelsea’s Table.  In looking at their Facebook page, I’m not the only one.  I called them today to find out if they have any plans to re-open, either at Chelsea Piers or anywhere in Manhattan.  I was told they do not have any plans to do so.  Sniff!

Chelsea’s Table opened this month (May, 2012).  Last weekend, five of us ate lunch there and were all very pleased with the selection, freshness, price and taste.  One caveat – we were all dying of thirst later in the day – was it the heat, too much salt or both?  Another trip is necessary!  I had the cous cous salad with grilled chicken, which was delicious.  The pastas and sandwiches got high ratings from others in my party.  This place is a goldmine for families.  There are tons of kid-type things to do right nearby (waterside playground, all the facilities at Chelsea Piers, bike paths, lawns and skateboard park above Chelsea Piers, etc.), and the food here is healthy, delicious and fairly reasonably priced (for a desirable area in Manhattan).  I highly recommend it!

If you are interested in farm-to-table restaurants in downtown Manhattan, see this earlier post of mine.

Organic housewares and linens?

July 7, 2011

I love Lifekind for bedding, towels, mattresses, pillows, linens, furniture, baby stuff, laundry stuff, bath stuff, etc.  I have ordered from them for years (at least 7) and I wrote a post a year ago extolling the virtues of their mattresses and pillows, but I thought it was worth repeating, because 1.) I love them so much, and 2.) they have a discount code “SUMMER11” for 10% off when you order online.  I don’t know how long that code will last, but it worked for me (I just ordered some pillowcases).

Many things about Lifekind impress me.

  • Their customer service is excellent.  They have intelligent and helpful people manning the phone.
  • When you tell them to keep you off the mailing list, they do it (unlike most other catalog companies).
  • Their stuff is VERY well made (yes, it’s definitely not cheap, but worth every penny, imho).
  • They’ll send samples of materials for allergy testing (not that I have had to use this, but it’s an awesome idea!)
  • A lot of their stuff is American made (my recent pillowcases are!) and it’s a good idea to support American manufacturing, especially high-quality American manufacturing, such as what Lifekind sources.
  • They make their own mattresses, and they make them to order.  If you need anything customized, it’s no problem.  You aren’t getting something that’s been sitting around in a warehouse.
Lastly, if you are interested, one particular thing that is on sale in their summer sale is the Organic Cotton Hooded Youth Robe in size 4/5 discounted from $69 to $34.50 (plus that 10% discount, which I assume would work on it).  I bought my son that robe years ago and it’s very well made.  Recently, I passed it along to a friend with a younger child, and I think it looked like it was still new.
